How to Know When to Use AI for Your Business

Hi, Reader! 👋

"If you don't implement AI in your business YESTERDAY, your business will fail, your spouse will leave you, and you will die a slow and painful death."

...

Ok, obviously that isn't true, but it's what every AI guru on the internet wants you to believe.

I've been thinking about AI a lot through the lens of trust and relationships.

Here is the question I've landed on to determine if I should implement AI in any area of my own business going forward.

Maybe this will be helpful for you, too.

Question:

Does using AI in this part of my business allow me to be MORE human with my customers, or LESS human?

If the answer is MORE human, then I jump in and figure out how to use AI for that use case.

If the answer is LESS human, then I pass.

Here is my reasoning...

I've talked to a TON of people about AI: average people, not just marketers and AI fanatics.

They're all tired of it already.

They're tired of being duped by AI Facebook posts.

They're tired of calling businesses and only being able to talk to AI bots (even if they sound very human).

They're tired of not knowing if what they're seeing on the internet is AI-generated (images or text).

They're tired of everything feeling LESS human.

👉 Your humanity is your value.

Using technology is obviously an unavoidable and even invaluable part of doing business.

BUT, it's your humanity that makes you valuable to your customers.

  • Your experience
  • Your feelings
  • Your ability to reason
  • Your intuition
  • Your empathy

All of it is what gives you credibility and earns you the trust of the people you serve.

Don't let the "AI Revolution" cause you to lose your humanity.

No matter how you implement AI in your business, always strive to be the most human you can be.

I promise this will make a difference for you in the long term.

What is the right amount of hard when working with your clients?

Hi, Reader! Over the past several weeks, I've been rethinking what it looks like to work with us at Moonflower Marketing. A few nights ago, I was working on a puzzle with my oldest daughter, and something occurred to me. My 10-year-old working on a Coke puzzle that was just the right amount of hard. As you can see, it was a Coca-Cola puzzle, with lots of vintage ads layered together. Naturally, there is quite a bit of red and various similar Coca-Cola/Coke logos throughout. It's certainly not...

Why is marketing so complicated?

Hi, Reader! Complicated doesn't work. Complexity kills momentum. Too often, we think the more detailed our messaging is, the smarter we'll look.We think the more complicated our marketing strategy is, the more effective it will be.In reality, complexity just complicates things. 🤔If your messaging is too detailed and your strategy is too complex, no one can remember either.Your team doesn't execute what they don't remember.Your marketing starts strong and then falls off a cliff because...

You might not be able to answer this either.

Hi, Reader! I spent a few days away with friends last week, skiing in northern Michigan. It was a much-needed break from the chaos of January. We all arrived on Wednesday afternoon. Four couples who have all known each other half our lives or more. We always go out to eat the first night, because no one wants to cook after being in the car all day. Sitting at the table that first night, over a local IPA and great pizza, I got to talking with a friend who works in sales for an industrial...
