Just the right amount of hard

Hi, Reader!

Over the past several weeks, I've been rethinking what it looks like to work with us at Moonflower Marketing.

A few nights ago, I was working on a puzzle with my oldest daughter, and something occurred to me.

As you can see, it was a Coca-Cola puzzle, with lots of vintage ads layered together.

Naturally, there is quite a bit of red and various similar Coca-Cola/Coke logos throughout.

It's certainly not an easy puzzle, but there are enough unique images within it to keep it from being an impossible sea of red logos.

A few months ago, we did a Hershey's puzzle that was so hard we quit. Practically every puzzle piece looked like it could go anywhere.

When we finish the Coke puzzle, it will be just the right amount of hard to make us feel accomplished, but not so hard we want to give up.

It definitely won't be so easy that we just shrug our shoulders and move on.

That's what occurred to me as I worked this puzzle after mapping out our messaging and strategy processes.

I can't 100% prevent my clients from having to put in some sweat equity. We need the information in their heads and systems to develop messaging and a marketing strategy for them.

However, if we lean TOO much on our clients, the process becomes too hard, overwhelming, and they want to give up (fire us).

I want my clients to feel accomplished when we launch their marketing, like they just did something important and valuable (because they did!).

Most of the hard work with us is early in our working relationship.

We host a few working sessions where we dive into your business and try to get inside the heads of your ideal clients to develop messaging that resonates with them and meets them where and when they need it.

After that, we transition to a quarterly marketing review and strategy call that helps us stay on the same page and keep moving the ship forward over the long term.

How do you work with your clients? Is it too easy? Too hard? Just right?

Be the Goldilocks of your industry.

Confusion Kills. Clarity Thrills.

Most firms are leaving clients on the table because prospects can’t figure out what they do or why it matters. Every Tuesday morning, I send brief emails that help you create a clearer message, simple strategy, and start growing your business consistently over the long term.

Why is marketing so complicated?

Hi, Reader! Complicated doesn't work. Complexity kills momentum. Too often, we think the more detailed our messaging is, the smarter we'll look.We think the more complicated our marketing strategy is, the more effective it will be.In reality, complexity just complicates things. 🤔If your messaging is too detailed and your strategy is too complex, no one can remember either.Your team doesn't execute what they don't remember.Your marketing starts strong and then falls off a cliff because...

You might not be able to answer this either.

Hi, Reader! I spent a few days away with friends last week, skiing in northern Michigan. It was a much-needed break from the chaos of January. We all arrived on Wednesday afternoon. Four couples who have all known each other half our lives or more. We always go out to eat the first night, because no one wants to cook after being in the car all day. Sitting at the table that first night, over a local IPA and great pizza, I got to talking with a friend who works in sales for an industrial...

Are you overthinking social media for your business?

Hi, Reader! 👋 I don't know about you, but I tend to overthink the content that I put out into the world. I want the things I post to be extremely valuable, which often leads me to include too much detail. It also sometimes results in posting nothing. Most of us don't have bangers to post every single day, right? Maybe There is a Simpler Way?
